Perm


Perm is a historical, cultural, scientific and administrative centre of Perm region. It was founded in 1723. It was built according to the decree of Ekaterina the II by soldiers and peasants who were forced to do it.

The territory of the city is 799 square kilometres. It is rather large and it is only smaller than Moscow and Saint- Petersburg. About 40% of territory is occupied by greenery.

There are a lot of different places of interest in Perm : the Museum of Arts, the Motovilikha open-air museum and others. The Museum of Arts is located at the crossing of the Ordzhonikidze Street and the Komsomolsky Prospect. This museum is considered to be one of the largest in Russia. The open-air museum is situated in the Square of 1905 which is towards the north of the centre.

The sightseeings in Perm also include a visit to the 18th century Perm-I railway Station as it is quite old and it is worth a visit. Being in Perm do not miss the opportunity of visiting the famous Opera and Ballet Theatre 'Chaikovsky'. The Kama boulevard is better to visit during the summer months as it becomes lively with live music and there are dozens of party tents put up here. There is also a camp of the Gulag archipelago that has been transformed into a museum.
