Moscow

Moscow Moscow is the capital of Russia. It was not always the capital. In ancient times the capitals of Russ were Kiev and Novgorod. After Peter the Great built Saint-Petersburg it was the Russian capital. And in the XX century during the Civil war first Soviet government moved to Moscow.

Moscow is one of the biggest and most beautiful cities of the world. Moscow was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgorukiy. The total area of the city grows every day.

Moscow is the major tourist centre of Russia. Thousands of people come to see its Red Square, the main square in Moscow and Russia and the famous Kremlin, numerous museums, theatres and exhibitions. The most famous are the Bolshoi Theatre, the Tretyakov Art Gallery, Pushkin Fine Arts Museum and many others. The city impresses everybody with its streets lined with fine buildings, its large squares, green parks, its wide bridges, its beautiful embankments, churches and monuments.

KremlinThe historical center of Moscow is the Kremlin. It is the oldest part of Moscow. It was built as a fortress on the bank of the moscow River.It is a symbol of Moscow. The Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral are masterpieces of ancient Russian architecture. The main Kremlin tower, the Spasskaya Tower, has become the symbol of the country. On the territory of Kremlin you can see old cathedrals, the Bell Tower, the Palace of Congress, the Tzar-Cannon and the Tzar-Bell, the biggest cannon and bell in the world. St. Basil's Cathedral was built in the mid-16th century in memory of the victory over Kazan. There is a legend, that Ivan the Terrible blinded the architects Barma and Postnik, because he didn't want them to create another masterpiece.Kremlin

One of the highest and original buildings in Moscow is Moscow State University. The university was founded in 1755 by the great chemist,
poet and thinker Mikhail Lomonosov.

Moscow transport system is a great one. You can see a lot of cars, buses, trolley-buses and trams in the streets of the city. Electric trains bring millions
people from and to suburbs and Moscow region small towns.


Moscovites are fond of going in for sports so, there are a lot of stadiums, swimming-pools, courts and sports ground.The citizens of Moscow enjoy spending their weekends in parks and gardens - the Park of Culture and Rest, Izmailovo, and so on.
