Perm is a historical, cultural, scientific and administrative centre of Perm region. It was founded in 1723. It was built according to the decree of Ekaterina the II by soldiers and peasants who were forced to do it.

The territory of the city is 799 square kilometres. It is rather large and it is only smaller than Moscow and Saint- Petersburg. About 40% of territory is occupied by greenery.

There are a lot of different places of interest in Perm : the Museum of Arts, the Motovilikha open-air museum and others. The Museum of Arts is located at the crossing of the Ordzhonikidze Street and the Komsomolsky Prospect. This museum is considered to be one of the largest in Russia. The open-air museum is situated in the Square of 1905 which is towards the north of the centre.

The sightseeings in Perm also include a visit to the 18th century Perm-I railway Station as it is quite old and it is worth a visit. Being in Perm do not miss the opportunity of visiting the famous Opera and Ballet Theatre 'Chaikovsky'. The Kama boulevard is better to visit during the summer months as it becomes lively with live music and there are dozens of party tents put up here. There is also a camp of the Gulag archipelago that has been transformed into a museum.

Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk is situated in the eastern part of Siberia. Of course,the nature around the city is fascinating. Taiga: pine-trees, fir-trees, birches.

Krasnoyarsk was founded in July of 1628 as a Russian border fort by cossacks.

Its name derives from 2 Russian words: "Krasniy" - Red and "Yar" which means steep bank or cliff.

In the Russian Empire, Krasnoyarsk was one of the places to which political exiles were banished. For example, eight Decembrists were deported from St. Petersburg to Krasnoyarsk after the failure of the revolt.

Later Lenin was in exile in the south of Krasnoyarsk region and Stalin was in exile in its north. Maybe that's why during the epoch of Stalinism, Krasnoyarsk was a major center of the Gulag system. The most important labor camp was the Kraslag or Krasnoyarsky ITL (1938-c.1960) with the two units located in Kansk and Reshyoty. In the city of Krasnoyarsk itself, the Yeniseylag or Yeniseysky ITL labor camp was prominent as well during World War II (1940-1941). So, for many years it was a closed city.

Krasnoyarsk is an important industrial city. There's about 40 large-scale plants and factories.
There is Sibtyazhmash plant (heavy engineering construction), aluminium plant, Krasmash (main Russian plant specialized on production of ballistic rockets for submarines and upper-stage rockets of launch vehicles ZENIT and PROTON), the metallurgic plant, the plant of base metals, the plant of nonferrous metals and gold, the pharmacy factory, the dock yard, the paper factory, the hydroelectric power station (which is now the fifth largest in the world and the second in Russia), the river port.

Temperatres in Krasnoyarsk vary from -46 degrees C (according to statistics the lowest temperature equal -52 C was registered in 1931) till +30 (maximum is +36). Snow usually lays on the ground from October till April but it depends.

Though Krasnoyarsk is situated in Siberia, it's a rather developped city. It has a number of local television companies and the highly-developed telecommunications, many districts of the city have LAN-based broadband Internet access. There're lots of supermarkets, shops, night clubs, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, theatres, and sport facilities.

Krasnoyarsk is a very prominent scientific and educational center of Siberia, with over 30 higher education facilities, many of which are the branches of the Russian Academy of Science, and about 200 high schools. There are several museums in the city.

The most popular place of attraction for tourists visiting Krasnoyarsk is the huge national nature reserve Stolby (Pillars in Russian) or the Rock Pillars. Stolby covers an area of 470 km² (181 mile²) with numerous giant granite rocks formations up to 100 meters high, many of very extraordinary shapes.

Stolby is also a major rock climbing location, many local climbers intentionally do not use any belaying equipment and call their extreme sport "stolbizm", which is known around the world as solo climbing.

There are a lot of architectural and historic buildings there, which were built at the end of of 19th and at the begining of the 20th centuries.

The main street of Vladivostok is Svetlanskaya Street. In this area you can find a great variety of historical buildings and different monuments.

The first monument in Vladivostok was founded for Nevelskoy. Not very far from this place you can find another monument. It’s a big submarine, which was put here after the World War II. It took part in that war. But now it’s a museum, where you can see how the sailors lived in this submarine under the water. It’s really very interisting.

Omsk is situated on the banks of the Irtish and Om rivers.It is the largest industrial and cultural center of Siberia.

Omsk was built according to the edict of the tsar Peter the Great in order to guard the south Russian borders.At first it was a wooden fortress.In the 1760s, a new fortification was founded, this time built of stone. In 1782 the fortress settlement was given the name of a town. Among inhabitants of this town were merchants, artisans, officials, but most people were the military.

The fortress is the historical heart of Omsk. At present we can find here the buildings of different epochs: Catherine the Great baroque of the former guardhouse (the Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office now) stands next to red-brick facades of the beginning of the 20th century buildings, severe forms of Military Assembly (House of Officers) are close to modern volumes of the Dzherzhinsky Palace of Culture. Many buildings in the fortress are connected with the name of the great Russian writer F.Dostoevsky. First of all it's the house of commandant, where in 1990 was placed the Dostoevsky Literary Museum.

In 1894 when the railroad came to Omsk it was called the Gates of Siberia. The Great Siberian Track made the economic contacts of business men more active and easier, by connecting Omsk with Moscow, Petersburg and Far East. The representatives of famous Russian and foreign firms came to the far Siberian town. Due to this Omsk started intensive construction of imposing buildings: banks, shops, apartments and offices.

There are a lot of museums in Oms, for example, Omsk museum of local lore, history and economy,the Vrubel Museum of Fine Arts,the Dostoevsky Literature Museum and many others.

Omsk is a theatrical city. It has 5 state and 3 municipal theatres.Today the leading city theatre is the Academic Drama Theatre.

Winter are wonderful in Omsk. With the bright sun and strong Siberian frost. They include the New Year holiday with obligatory merry ice sledges and fortresses, with troika rides and Siberian fun competitions, fairs, skomorokhs and traditional pancakes.

Omsk today has more then, 100 libraries. The Regional Library of A.S.Pushkin has more then 10000 books and magazines.

Omsk is a a modern city. If you want to keep fit, gyms and swimming pools are at your disposal in every neighbourhood.

Omsk is also attractive in summer. Green parks and public gardens with flowerbeds and fountains serve as islands and recreation zones. From a riverboat you can get a marvellous view of the Irtysh Embankment.

Novosibirsk is situated on the great Siberian river Ob. Its foundation is associated with the name of the well-known Russian writer of the latter half of the 19th century N.Garin-Mikhailovsky.

Engineering was his second profession. In 1891—1893 Garin-Mikhailovsky built the left-bank tracks of the Trans-Siberian Railway. That was the beginning of Novosibirsk's history.

The residents of Novosibirsk called the railway square of the city by his name. Novosibirsk region is situated in West Siberia's southern part. There are 14 towns in this region.

Today Novosibirsk is a big industrial, scientific, cultural and educational centre.

Other towns of Novosibirsk Region are growing rapidly. Thus, Berdsk has become a radio engineering centre producing high-fidelity radiosets. Iskitim has become one of of Russian centres producing cement and other building materials.

Novosibirsk is the first populated center in the east of the Urals to have an underground railway of its own. There are many joint ventures in Novosibirsk.

Novosibirsk is a scientific and cultural centre. Akademgorodok, the township of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of sciences is famous throughout the world.

Novosibirsk is called a city of three Academies: the Siberian branch of the VASKHNIL, the Siberian branch of the Russian Medical Academy of Sciences and the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Akademgorodok is situated on the coast of the man-made Ob Sea. More than twenty research institutes and the University are situated there. Research work is being done on a very lardge scale there.

Residents of Novosibirsk are proud of its State Academic Opera and Ballet House, one of the worlds's biggest, its Conservatoire of Music, the Operetta House and the Puppet Theater.

The Art Gallery in Novosibirsk is certainly the worth seeing!

On the bank of the river Kamenka stands the tall building of the State Public Scientific and Technical Library. It has more than five million volumes on its shelves.

Novosibirsk is an educational centre as well. Every third resident of Novosibirsk is a student who can make his choice of colleges. The city is still growing and becoming more beautiful with every passing day.
